Elon Musk has once again raised a difficult question about the future of artificial intelligence. In a recent interview with *The Economist*, Musk said that AI could become more intelligent than humans in the coming years. He also suggested that AI may perform many jobs better than people.

Whether Musk is right about the timing or not, one thing is clear: the world of work is changing.

For human resource professionals, this is not only a technology issue. It is a people issue.

Companies hired people on the basis of their knowledge, skill & education and this happening for many years. But what if AI can think better, analyze faster, process information in no time & even make better decision than human?

This question rise day by day in every field.

For recruitment many companies already used AI. In future, AI can become even more involved in hiring & managing employees, now a days most companies uses AI to screen CVs, and find suitable employees for companies & gathered large amount of information regarding the candidate.

This creates both opportunities and risks.

Opportunity is clear for companies. AI can help HR team for hiring and make better decisions and of course AI save time. AI can also find gaps in its human workforce & even AI can identify skill & also can do appraisal to understand employee performance.

But there is also a serious risk.

What humans do if AI take all their task? Company’s dependency too much on AI may forget employees are human beings, not just number on a screen.

A good employee is not valuable only because of technical knowledge. People also bring empathy, leadership, creativity, communication and judgement. These qualities are difficult to measure, but they are important in every organization.

This is where the role of HR may change.

In the past, HR departments mainly asked: “What skills does this person have?”

In an artificial intelligence world, HR may need to ask a different question: “What can you or a person do that a machine cannot easily do?”

This does not mean that humans will suddenly become useless. It means that the value of human skills may become even greater.

Pakistan it is time to wake up. Pakistan needs to think seriously about AI. Every year, thousands of graduates enter the job market. Many of them are trained for traditional jobs, while the global economy is moving towards AI and automation.

If Pakistan wants to benefit from AI, government & universities should do collaboration and create a plan and prepare young people for the future AI world. Students should not only learn how to use AI tools. They should also learn critical thinking, communication, creativity, leadership and problem-solving.

The future is belong to those who move with the world. The world will change, we must change ourselves with it and the future is AI.

Musk’s prediction may prove correct, or it may take much longer than he expects. But businesses cannot wait for the answer.

HR leaders should prepare now and take this serious that how AI & HR work together.

The real question is not whether AI will become smarter than humans. The real question is whether humans will become smart enough to use AI without losing the qualities that make them valuable.

If machines become better at intelligence, humanity may need to become better at being human.
