As the global Plastic Free July campaign draws to a close, Zong, Pakistan’s leading technology services enterprise, partnered with WWF Pakistan and Integrated Waste Management Solution (ISPES) to culminate the month-long initiative with a coastal clean-up drive at HawksBay, Karachi. The collaborative effort bringing together employees, volunteers and environmental advocates to combat plastic pollution, protect Pakistan coastal ecosystems, and promote responsible waste management through collective community action.

The clean-up drive reflects Zong’s commitment to embedding environmental sustainability into business operations through practical initiatives that promote responsible resource management and environmental conservation. The activity aimed to raise public awareness of marine pollution while reinforcing the importance of collective action and multi-stakeholder collaboration in preserving Pakistan’s coastal ecosystems for future generations

To ensure the responsible management of collected waste, ISPES transported the materials for systematic segregation and processing, with recyclable plastic waste directed to its upcycling facility to support circular economy practices and minimize landfill disposal. This end-to-end waste management approach ensured the initiative delivered a tangible environmental impact beyond the clean-up activity itself, transforming collected waste into valuable resources while reinforcing the principles of sustainable resource utilization and environmental stewardship

Speaking about the Plastic Free July clean-up drive, Nabila Yazdani, Head of Strategy, Corporate Communications & Sustainability at Zong, said, “Sustainable development demands innovation, strategic collaboration, and meaningful community engagement – values that guide everything we do. Through our partnership with WWF Pakistan and ISPES, we are advancing responsible waste management, supporting circular economy practices, and encouraging collective action to protect Pakistan’s coastal and natural ecosystems.”

Zong remains committed to advancing environmental sustainability by reducing its environmental footprint, promoting resource efficiency, and embedding responsible environmental practices across its operations.

Through collective action and strategic partnerships, the company continues to drive sustainable impact contributing to a cleaner, greener and more resilient Pakistan.
