The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), through its Climate Change Adaptation and Media & Communication Departments, in collaboration with the German Red Cross (GRC), successfully concluded a two-day National Climate Journalism Training Workshop in Islamabad. The workshop brought together more than 30 journalists and field reporters from climate-prone regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.<\/p>\n

The training commenced with an overview of its objectives and purpose by Mr. Sajjad Ali Kandhir and Mr. Ghulam Murtaza from the PRCS Climate Change Adaptation Program.Mr. Asif Aman, Transition Delegate from German Red Cross in Pakistan, and Mr. Ghulam Rasool Farooqui, Program Coordinator, German Red Cross welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of strengthening climate reporting. Mr. Sher Zaman, Head of Media & Communication, PRCS National Headquarters, delivered a detailed presentation on the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, PRCS history, mandate and scope of work, facilitated by Mr. Rehan Ali, Assistant Director Media & Communication, PRCS. Ms. Uneeba Waqar, Climate and Environmental Journalist, led sessions on climate science, climate reporting approaches, story development, climate policy and practical news story exercises.<\/p>\n

On the second day, Mr. Abdul Razak Khatti, Broadcast Journalist and Mobile Journalism (MoJo) Trainer, conducted a dedicated session on mobile journalism, focusing on the effective use of smartphones and digital tools for climate reporting. The remaining sessions, covered climate data journalism, identifying climate perspectives in everyday stories, developing impactful human-centred narratives and connecting with reliable sources. Participants also engaged in practical story development, presentations and editorial feedback.<\/p>\n

In her message, Honourable Chairperson PRCS Mrs. Farzhana Naek said, \u201cClimate action must begin with solutions that respond to the realities of local communities. Journalists have an important role in bringing these solutions to the forefront, highlighting practical actions and giving greater visibility to communities that are already responding to climate challenges. I appreciate the PRCS and German Red Cross for providing journalists with the skills to report climate issues in a way that can contribute to meaningful action at the local level.\u201d<\/p>\n

Secretary General PRCS Mr. Muhammad Abaidullah Khan said, \u201cClimate change is affecting communities, livelihoods and lives across Pakistan, making accurate and responsible climate reporting increasingly important. Strengthening the capacity of journalists to understand climate issues and translate them into clear, relevant and compelling stories can help connect communities, decision-makers and stakeholders with the actions and solutions needed on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
